Thakkali Curry or tomato curry recipe is a traditional and common curry recipe from South India. This recipe is a combination of tomato with coconut which blended to for a good curry recipe. It’s a authentic south indian recipe loved by all and prepared at home to use with steamed rice.

Tomato – 4 number (chopped)

Curry leaves – 1 sprig

Green Chilly – 3 (slit from center)

Onion – 1 (small)

Turmeric Powder – ¼ – ½ tsp

Chilly Powder – ½ tsp

Mustard Seeds – ½ tsp

Water – as required

Salt – as per taste

Oil – 2 tbsp

For Grinding

Coconut – 1 cup

Cumin seeds – ¼ tsp

Shallots – 2 – 3 numbers

Water – ¼ cup

Method to Prepare Thakkali Curry or Tomato Curry Recipe

1. Heat a pan, add mustard seeds after it splutters add onion, green chilly and curry leaves. Saute for few minutes.

2. Add chilly powder and turmeric powder and saute well then add chopped tomatoes to it.

3. Add 2 cups of water, mix well and close with lid and cook for about 15 minutes on medium flame.

4. Add grinded paste mix and check for water if need more water then add it to adjust the consistency.

5. Bring it to boil and switch off flame.

Serve hot with rice.
