Chena erissery recipe is a traditional South Indian recipe. The gravy of Yam erissery is thick and delicious and a good combination for rice.

Chena / Yam – 2 cup (chopped in medium cubes)

Coconut – 1 cup (grated)

Turmeric – ½  tsp

Cumin seeds – ½ tsp

Green Chilly – 2

Garlic – 5 (finely chopped)

Salt – as per taste

For Tempering:

Coconut Oil – 2 tbsp

Coconut – ½ cup (grated)

Mustard seeds – ½ tsp

Shallots – 3 sliced

Curry Leaves – 1 sprig

Dry Red Chilly – 2

Method to Prepare Chena Erissery Recipe / Yam Erissery Recipe

1. Cook yam in 4 cups water on low flame till water evaporates. Mash it well.

2. Grind together cumin seeds, coconut, turmeric, salt, green chilly and garlic to a fine paste.

3. Cook mix for 5 minutes on low flame.

4. Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard. Fry shallots, curry leaves and dry red chilly.

 5. Add tempering over curry

6. Fry coconut till brown, add it to Erissery. Mix well.

Your Yam erissery is ready to serve. Serve hot with steamed rice.
