Jeera Rice can be prepared for all occasions and for surprise guests at home. This recipe is simple and can be made with ingredients readily available at home.

Basmati rice – 2 cup

Onion – 1 (medium)

Green Chilly – 3

Jeera/cumin seeds – 4 tsp

Bay leaf – 1

Oil – 2 tbsp

Salt – as per taste

Water – 4 cup

Method to Prepare Jeera Rice

1. Take 2 cups of rice wash it and keep soaked for 5 minutes and drain.

2. In the meantime chop onions very small and slit the green chillies.

3. Heat oil in a pan add oil to it, when its medium hot add jeera to it and when it stops spluttering add chopped onion and saute well till its transparent.

4. Add bay leaf and green chilly and saute for few seconds. Put water in it and bring it to boil.

5. Then add rice to it and when it boils cook it with closed lid on low flame till water evaporates completely.

Serve it hot with veg or non veg curry.
