Idli or Idly is a tasty and delicious breakfast recipe from South India. It is a common and popular breakfast recipe through out India. A healthy recipe prepared by steaming the rice batter to make rice cakes.

It can be prepared with different ingredients like rice, rava, oats, etc. The recipe below explains step by step method to prepare common soft idli with raw rice. You need to have special vessel for preparing this recipe.

Raw Rice: 2 cups

Urad Dal / Bengal gram: 1 cup

Cooked rice: ½ cup

Oil: 3 tablespoon

Salt: as required

Method to Prepare Idli or Idly Recipe

1. Grind rice, Bengal gram, & cooked rice separately by adding water in a thick & soft consistency.

2. Keep it overnight

3. Take batter add 1 tsp of salt & 1 cup water. Mix well.

4. Spread the batter in idli vessel & keep for cooking for 15 – 20 minutes on medium flame.

Idli is ready to serve. Serve with sambar or coconut chutney.
